Enniskillen has been named as one of the ‘most hip’ places to move to by The Times. Their annual list of ‘coolest postcodes to move to in 2024’ in the UK has been released, with only one Northern Irish location featured this year.
Enniskillen has been remarked for its “lively spirit” and being located in the “happiest county” in NI – being called “Northern Ireland’s answer to Hollywood”.
The Times said: “A town on an island — what’s not to love? Slap-bang in the middle of Fermanagh, voted the happiest county in Northern Ireland, Enniskillen is awash with lively spirit, cute independent boutiques and the odd Hollywood interloper.
“The literary luminaries Oscar Wilde and Samuel Beckett were schooled here, while Blakes of the Hollow, the town’s most famous pub, is the real deal: an atmospheric Victorian number loved by locals for its pool table, plentiful Guinness — oh, and one of ten special carved Game of Thrones doors.
“Meanwhile the town itself has had a facelift, with murals of musicians, fishermen and the Enniskillen lad Adrian Dunbar (of Line of Duty fame).
“Places to eat include the much-loved Street Kitchen (the café turns into a fine-dining pop-up at night) and 28 at the Hollow, housed in a former Guinness bottling station.”
“The local college is renowned for film studies — and indeed, the industry is booming here. The neoclassical Castle Coole starred alongside Colin Farrell and Jessica Chastain in Miss Julie.
